In the context of the Coordination Action INNOVA-MED, an international conference took place on innovative processes and practices for wastewater treatment and re-use in the Mediterranean region. Eleftheria Kampa, Senior Fellow with the Ecologic Institute, gave a lecture on the constraints to the broader application of treatment and reuse technologies in Mediterranean Partner Countries of North Africa and Middle East.

Key types of relevant constraints include financial constraints, political constraints, health and environmental impacts, constraints related to infrastructure as well as awareness raising and user acceptance. In this lecture, the discussion of constraints is complemented by reference to existing good practice examples from Mediterranean countries and recommendations on further priority actions and research needs. The presentation [pdf, 188 KB, English] of Eleftheria Kampa is available for download.
