Martin Obermaier is currently a Ph.D. candidate at the Energy Planning Program of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (PPE/COPPE/UFRJ). His main research interests include rural energy use and its interlinkages with development, health, and climate issues.
Martin worked as a research assistant with Ecologic Institute between 2002 and 2005. His work focused on economic instruments in environmental policy and approaches to public participation in water management.
Martin received his MSc in Economics from the Freie Universität Berlin in 2005, with a specialisation in environmental management and Latin American studies. Before graduating, he spent two semesters at the Université d'Evry Val d'Essonne in France as an Erasmus student, and completed his introductory study period at the University of Potsdam. Between 2003 and 2004, Martin also served as a full-time research assistant at the macroeconomics department of the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA) in Brazil.
Martin works in German, English and Portuguese and has advanced knowledge in French and Spanish.
