Irina Herb works as an International Fellow for Ecologic Institute. Thematically, she focuses on agro-ecology and the governance of soil and water in the EU. She is particularly interested in the topics of stakeholder engagement, co-creation of knowledge on environmental protection and EU politics. Irina works in German and English.
At Ecologic Institute, she is involved in the projects "Coordination of International Research Cooperation on soil CArbon Sequestration in Agriculture" (CIRCASA), and "Digital Water City – Leading urban water management to its digital future" (DWC).
Before joining Ecologic Institute, Irina worked for and interned with several research institutes, including the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt and the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity as well as the Diversity Research Institute in Göttingen (Germany). Furthermore, her interest in foreign policy and development brought her to the German Embassy in Astana (Kazakhstan) and an NGO in Kisumu (Kenia).
Irina studied sociology at the Georg-August University in Göttingen and completed her Master's degree at the University of Oxford (United Kingdom). In her thesis, she mapped 'multiple and relational values of nature' of stakeholders in UNFCCC international climate change negotiations.
