Dr. Barbara Rathmer
Since May 2009 Barbara Rathmer has been working on the implementation of the PRTR and its European and international developments at the Federal Environment Agency.
Barbara Rathmer was a Senior Fellow at Ecologic Institute from 2006 to 2009. She worked on a research project funded by the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) on the implementation of the Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (PRTR), “Pollutant and Transfer Register in Germany“. Key activities in this project were the conceptual design and development of the national PRTR, support for federal state technical implementation and reporting facilities as well as working on methodological issues. The project also required expertise on questions concerning the implementation and development of the PRTR at the European and international levels. Barbara Rathmer works in German and English.
From 2001 to 2006, Barbara Rathmer worked at the State Institute for Environment, Monitoring and Nature Conservation Baden-Württemberg (LUBW) on several research projects related to the IPPC-Directive and European Pollutant Emission Register (EPER). She also worked on the preceding research project for the preparation of a PRTR in Germany. As an expert member of the German delegation, she attended the negotiations of the UN-ECE PRTR-Protocol and the European E-PRTR Regulation.
Barbara Rathmer studied agricultural engineering, with a focus on agriculture and environment, at the Technische Universität München. She worked on several research projects on emissions from livestock farming at the Bavarian State Research Center for Agriculture. Her final thesis examined the “Comparison of the emissions of greenhouse and other environmentally relevant gases from housing systems for fattening pigs”.
