Sini Matikainen, a transatlantic intern from June until September 2008, focuses on technological innovation projects in rural areas. She studies Economics at Stanford University and has a particular interest in development, environment, and climate change issues. Born in Alabama, USA to Finnish parents, Sini has dual citizenship and speaks English as her mother tongue and Finnish fluently. She also has a working knowledge of German and some knowledge of Spanish and Italian.
Prior to working at Ecologic, she interned and wrote for Portico Magazine in Birmingham, Alabama, and researched international trade issues in the political science department at Stanford University. She has also been active in Stanford’s newspaper, working as a writer, columnist, and editor.
After graduating next year, Sini plans to travel for a few months before permanently moving to Europe and looking for a job in journalism or development economics. She plans to seek a Master’s degree in the future.
