Polly Hand joined Ecologic Institute as a Transatlantic Fellow in October 2011, as a part of a year in Germany as a Robert Bosch Fellow. Her research focused primarily on energy issues, particularly renewable energy and grid integration. She is a native English speaker and has a working knowledge of German, as well as basic French.
While at Ecologic Institute, Polly Hand aimed to further her understanding of EU and German approaches to energy planning. In particular, she was interested in the intersection of the public and the private sector in the development of clean energy markets.
Prior to Ecologic Institute, Polly Hand worked in a number of energy and environment-related roles. Most recently, she worked with StrateGen Consulting, a California-based firm specializing in market entry and market development strategies for renewable energy and clean technology firms, and the California Energy Storage Alliance. In addition, during her graduate studies she researched solar policy as an intern at Suntech America, where she focused on policy-based market development mechanisms and strategic planning. Polly has also worked in business development and marketing for the private equity firm Norwest Equity Partners, as well as for environmental non-profits in Washington, DC and Bangkok.
Polly Hand has a master’s degree (MA) in International Policy, with an Energy Policy concentration, from Stanford University. She received her Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Environmental Studies and History from the University of Pennsylvania.
