Matthew Jones was an Intern at Ecologic Institute in San Mateo, CA, and supported the 2013 Indicators Project for San Mateo County. He is primarily interested in US, Swedish, and EU environmental policy with foci in political participation, international relations, social media, and energy policy. He works in English and has knowledge of Spanish and Swedish.
While interning at the Ecologic Institute, Matt helped develop the new Innovation Indicator for the county Indicators Report and assisted local high school students with additional indicators. In conjunction with his position at the Bay Area Open Space Council, he also contributed to the Parks & Open Space, Land Use and Biodiversity sections of the report.
Matthew graduated from UC Santa Barbara, majoring in political science with a concentration in comparative politics and minoring in music. He conducted a study and wrote a research paper entitled "The Relationship Between Facebook and Political Participation in Young Adults." After a semester abroad at Lund University in Sweden, where he took a rigorous course about Swedish politics, he worked on a research paper which focused on Sweden’s role in EU environmental policy.
Matthew was part of the Model UN travel team that won an Outstanding Delegation Award at the 2011 National Model United Nations (NMUN) conference in New York, playing the role of Israel in the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
