Brandon Goeller worked at Ecologic Institute as a Transatlantic Fellow from December 2012 to May 2014. His working interests included river basin management, biodiversity, marine and fisheries policy, science communication, and environmental education. He is a native English speaker and speaks German fluently.
Brandon Goeller was involved in the project Forum Fish Protection and Downstream Migration, financed by the German Federal Environment Agency (UBA). The project facilitates knowledge transfer among federal and regional water resource management authorities, NGOs, consultancies, water managers, and representatives of the hydropower industry in Germany. He also researched the ecological benefits of river restoration measures in REFORM, a project under the 7th Framework Programme (FP7) of the European Commission (EC). In the FP7 project DEMEAU, he assisted with the dissemination of project results internally amongst project partners and externally to relevant stakeholders and the public.
Before joining Ecologic Institute, Brandon Goeller conducted river ecology and restoration research as a visiting scientist from 2010 to 2012 at the Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) in Berlin (Germany). Prior to his research at the IGB, he worked in 2010 for the Department of Fisheries Management in Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GRSMNP) in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. Previously, in 2009, he conducted wetland ecology research in sub-alpine wetlands at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory (RMBL) in Gothic, Colorado.
Brandon Goeller, originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, graduated cum laude from Allegheny College in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in biology and environmental science and a minor in German. As an undergraduate, he studied abroad in Costa Rica, Denmark, and Germany. He was awarded a Fulbright Fellowship and then a German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Study Scholarship to complete the Master's of Science in Fishery Science and Aquaculture at the Humboldt University in Berlin (Germany) from 2010 to 2013. His master's thesis evaluated the long-term performance of river restoration measures in the Northern German lowlands, in light of the Water Framework Directive's implementation within the European Union (EU).
