Renewed Lisbon Strategy and Implementation of National Reform Programmes: Development of Indicators

The Lisbon strategy was re-launched in 2005 with a strengthened focus on growth and jobs across Europe but also with an emphasis on coherence with the Sustainable Development Strategy. The objective of this project is to develop a methodology for assessing to which extent the environmental component has been taken into account in the National Reform Programms (NRPs) and how committed the Member States are to delivering their pledges made. Promoting Environmental Public Interest Litigation in China

The Chinese legal framework on public interest litigation in environmental matters shall be strengthened in order to address threatening large-scale environmental damage due to China's industrial development process. Existing concepts of other countries have exemplary character. In the framework of the project, Ecologic drew up a report on public interest litigation in Germany, which was subsequently  presented at a workshop organised by the GTZ in Beijing in the fall of 2006. Emissions Reduction for Priority and Priority Hazardous Substances of the Water Framework Directive

An important goal of the EU - Water Framework Directive (WFD) is to achieve good chemical status of surface waters by 2015. According to Article 1(c) "specific measures for the progressive reduction of discharges, emissions and losses of priority substances" must be implemented. For the priority hazardous substances, discharges, emissions and losses must be stopped or phased-out. The German Federal Environment Agency published this report, which Ecologic contributed to. The 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl accident was the occasion for the Böll Foundation to host an event on Ukrainian and European energy policy in the premises of the Deutsche Umwelthilfe in Berlin. The event offered an opportunity for energy experts to discuss recent and possible future developments in energy policy, especially nuclear energy. Dr. Camilla Bausch, Senior Fellow at Ecologic, gave a presentation on the European energy policy with special focus on the Energy Charter Treaty.

Urban Environment and Environmental Technologies

For the preparations of the informal Council of Environmental Ministers under the Austrian EU presidency, Ecologic contributed to a discussion paper on the urban environment and environmental technologies. The paper discusses in particular the Thematic Strategy on the Urban Environment of the European Commmission and the potential for the use of environmental technologies in cities.Read more
