In May 2012, as part of the World Congress on Water, Climate and Energy in Dublin (Ireland), Ecologic Institute organized a Special Session entitled "Communicating research: Getting your message across." The event, led by Darla Nickel, Ulf Stein, and Johanna von der Weppen, all experts from Ecologic Institute, targeted water researchers as well as practitioners with an interest in catalyzing the transfer and use of EU-funded research outputs in order to meet the objectives set out in the Water Framework Directive and related directives.
During the summer semester 2012, the Research Group Ecosystem Services organises a course on "Ecosystem Services and Land Use" at the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin (HU Berlin). The course is geared toward Bachelor's students in agriculture and horticulture. The International Carbon Action Partnership (ICAP) successfully convened another ICAP training course on Emissions Trading for Emerging Economies and Developing Countries to build capacity in emissions trading systems (ETS). The ICAP Training Course 2012 took place in Alajuela (Costa Rica) from 19 to 28 March 2012. Benjamin Görlach and Michael Mehling of Ecologic Institute led the course and spoke about ways to avoid carbon leakage and competitive distortions as well as the impact of policies on the design of ETS.
