Further Development of the European Emission Trading Directive

Ecologic Institute is working with Öko-Institut and Prof. Dr. Klinski on a project for the Federal Environmental Agency (UBA) relating to constitutional, European law and state aid issues for the development of the European Emission Trading Directive. Ecologic Institute's contribution focusses on the interactions of the ETS Directive and further EU legislative acts with a potential Federal Climate Change Act.Read more

"No more Plastics in the Oceans": Designing a legally binding global plastic convention

Plastic pollution of the world's oceans is a quickly growing environmental problem. A number of international instruments and treaties are trying to address the problem, but the growing amount of plastic waste that is polluting our seas shows these are insufficient. On behalf of WWF, the project team from adelphi and Ecologic Institute thus compiled a report on gaps in global plastic governance and developed options for the design of a legally binding agreement to eliminate further marine plastic pollution.Read more

From 26 to 28 April 2018, the Global Forum on Urban Resilience and Adaptation took place in Bonn (Germany), just after the March Cities IPCC Conference, a few days ahead of the midyear Bonn climate talks and a few months before nations review SDG 11 on cities and human settlements. Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples Platform

potential governance arrangements under the Paris Agreement

The Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples Platform (LCIP Platform) was established in Paris in 2015, but its operationalization is still ongoing. The LCIP Platform could provide an important next step towards a nuanced inclusion of specific non-Party stakeholders in the UNFCCC process. Based on the negotiation process for the Platform and on current modes of participation of non-Party stakeholders, this report develops a toolkit of governance elements for the Platform.
