The Technical Assistance Facility for Danube Region Projects (TAF-DRP) aims to provide jumpstart to projects under the EU Strategy for the Danube Region. As in the past, many project ideas often lack know-how, capacities and resources for the concrete implementation as project. The study "Multilevel governance of our natural capital: the contribution of regional and local authorities to the EU Biodiversity Strategy 2020 and the Aichi Biodiversity Targets" was carried out by Ecologic Institute and ICLEI for the EU's Committee of the Regions (CoR). It informed the CoR's contribution to the review of the EU Biodiversity Strategy and contributed to the monitoring of the implementation of CBD Decision X/22 within the Member States. When striving for a resource-efficient EU economy, how can we use policies to effectively shape consumer choices towards sustainability? A new Report written by Katharina Umpfenbach and colleagues for DG Environment summarises the most relevant scientific insights and analyses the implications for policy making. It highlights novel policy ideas for triggering changes in consumer behaviour.
Rule on investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) offer investors the possibility to sue their host states for alleged breaches of an investment agreement. Are such rules in the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) agreement necessary? What risks are there for environmental regulation? Will states have to pay compensation for environmental protection measures? The Ecologic Institute analyzed the potential influence of ISDS rules in TTIP on environmental regulation. In the EU, political attention is focussed on economic affairs and social issues of insecurity and inequality which have been emphasised by the economic crisis and government responses. Levels of dissatisfaction with incumbent governments are often high, prompting increased populist and short-term political positions. Indicators are essential for measuring the performance of resource policy and communication of goal achievement. The underlying purpose of the project "Further Development of Raw Material Input Indicators – Methodological Discussion and Approaches for Consistent Datasets" is to analyze the existing indicators with their underlying methodologies, as well as the need for their further development, and to develop proposals for their harmonization. The Ecologic Institute coordinates the project, conducts expert interviews and workshops and develops a concept for methodological harmonisation.Read more
How competitive are Eco-Industries in Europe - and how well have they fared during the economic crisis? This is the central question of a short study that the Ecologic Institute produced for the Greens in the European Parliament.
