Collection and Assessment of Information on Climate Policies in the Context of the European Semester

Project
Duration
-

The objective of this project is to support DG Climate Action (European Commission) in its assessment of Member States’ key challenges to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions and related policies recently put into place. The information should also help DG CLIMA in enhancing the role of climate policies in the European Semester. With this project, Ecologic Institute continues the work in this field since 2012.

The focus of this project is on the identification and description of key challenges in each of the 28 Member States. For each of the challenges, the project team checks and assesses the latest policy developments and concludes on investments gaps and funding opportunities.

Key challenges can be of cross-sectral or sectoral nature. Cross-sectoral refers e.g. to employment impacts of a transition to a low carbon economy, carbon pricing, development and deployment of low-carbon technologies and access to finance. Sectroal challenges can be identified in energy supply and transmission, buildings, transport, industry, agriculture and land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF).

With this project, Ecologic Institute continues to support DG CLIMA and its Country Desks. Tasks include the support of the development of template, guidance and central information relevant to all country researchers in the project team, the research and assessment of policies in Austria, France, Germany and Malta, as well as the quality check of 14 country reports.
