Andrew Ayres

Andrew Ayres was an Associate of Ecologic Institute. His research focused on water management and economics, climate policy, and environmental and energy economics. Andrew works in English and German and possesses intermediate knowledge of Spanish.
While working at Ecologic Institute from October 2011 to June 2013, Andrew's project work included the following:
- contributions to an assessment, on behalf of the European Commission (EC), of the progress being made by European Union Member States in implementing measures to meet climate change mitigation goals and promote green growth,
- reporting on how benchmarking overisght can help ensure sustainable water pricing in Europe for the European Environment Agency [1] (EEA),
- the economic analysis of river restoration measures as part of REFORM [2], a project under the EC's 7th Framework Programme (FP7),
- research on the economics of adaptation to climate change [3] in developing countries for the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit [4] (GIZ), and
- projects on environmental and health-related indicators in the benchmarking of water suppliers [5] as well as cooperation with Latin American countries on implementing emissions trading systems. [6]
Andrew has also written and presented on the Water Footprint indicator [7].
Previously, Andrew worked as a research assistant with the Technical Support Unit of the Third Working Group [8] of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change [9] (IPCC) of the United Nations.
Currently, Andrew is a PhD student at the Bren School of Environmental Science and Management [10] at the University of California, Santa Barbara (USA) with a focus on economics and environmental science. He has been awarded a Sustainable Water Markets Fellowship [11]. Andrew holds a bachelor's degree in economics and German from Pomona College in Claremont, California (USA). After graduating in 2010, he received a United States Fulbright Fellowship [12] to research renewable energy policy in Berlin (Germany).
