On June 12 2009, Zoë Robaey, Transatlantic Fellow with Ecologic, was invited to the General Meeting of the Dutch Environmental Professionals Association in Den Haag. She was among the three finalists from Dutch higher education institutions whose Master’s theses were nominated for the Rachel Carson Award. Her thesis “Differing Views of Uncertainty in Environmental Controversies: the Kearl Oil Sands Case, 2003-2008 in Canada“ was awarded second place.

On 24 January 2007 the Sustainability Lounge was started in Berlin. This dialogue forum discusses innovative ideas in the field of sustainability and encourages responsible corporate action. The topic of the kick-off event was “Global Markets between Climate Policy and Innovation”. The discussion panel included Achim Steiner (Director, UNEP), Sigmar Gabriel (German Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety) and Hanns Michael Hölz (Deutsche Bank AG). The Frankfurter Rundschau, Die Zeit and the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported.
How can the idea of material efficiency be combined with the emotional climax of a world cup soccer game? Can an edible cup replace the fried sausage? This year for the first time an academic working paper, written at the Faculty of Industrial Design at the Berlin University of Art by the seminar “Ecology and Design” received the German Material Efficiency Award. With this award, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology recognises best –practice examples for cost-effective improvements in the field of material efficiency.
After a thorough and successful audit of the recently introduced environmental management system, Ecologic was awarded the Berlin Ökoprofit certificate. Altogether twelve small and medium sized enterprises from Berlin participated in this round of workshops leading up to the certification. The programme is funded by the Berlin Senate for Urban Development.
Every year, the Italian environmental organisation Legambiente Lombardia gives recognition to private and public enterprises for their innovation of environment-friendly technologies, products, services, and management systems. This year, Ecologic supports the Innovation Award in order to help raise international outlook, awareness and participation.
