Techniques for Evaluation of Sustainability Assessment Tools (Sustainability A-Test)

March 2004 to August 2006

In the course of the 6th Framework Programme, Ecologic participated in the "Sustainability A-Test" project. Coordinated by our Dutch network partner IVM, 18 research institutes from 9 different countries compared different policy appraisal and evaluation tools, in order to assess the contribution of policy initiatives to a sustainable development. National Sustainable Development Strategy in Germany

As part of the Sustainable Development Strategy process, a conference entitled "Dialogue for the National Sustainable Development Strategy: How could its environmental profile be strengthened?" was held on 18-19 March 2004. Sustainable Consumption is one of the key factors on the way to Sustainable Develoment. So far, the implementation of suatinable consumption lacks legally binding international obligations. This study therefore identifies whether and to what extend existing international agreements or organisations could serve as a tool to implement aspects of sustainable development. In addition, the study offers recommendations how further policy integration in the field of sustainable consumption can be achieved. Particular emphasis is placed on international trade law.

Implementation of the Agenda 21
