The Water Resources Act is the central instrument for fish protection in Germany.
The German federal states do not take a uniform approach. While some states have developed prioritization concepts and concrete targets, other states only require appropriate measures or have no concrete specifications.
Most commonly, targets are set for bar spacing (between 10 mm and 20 mm depending on the target species) and maximum approach velocity (0.5m/s) at the rake.
