1. Climate Laws for Germany and Europe – Knowledge for Future – The Environment Podcast

   Germany plans to introduce a national climate law before the end of the year. The EU as a whole is also to adopt a climate law and become climate neutral by 2050. But what do the existing climate protection laws actually look like at European level? What does a framework climate law accomplish? And what has to be included in such a law in order for it to be effective? These are the questions addressed in the fifth and sixth episode of the environmental podcast "Knowledge for Future" produced by Ecologic Institute and detektor.fm.

2. Multi-level Policy Framework for Sustainable Urban Development and Nature-based Solutions – Publication

   This report by Ecologic Institute explores the extent to which current policy frameworks support sustainable urban development and nature-based solutions (NBS). It shows that in the individual countries and from the local to the international level a multitude of different terms are used in policies and discourses to support sustainable urban development, with green (and blue) infrastructure being the most frequently used. However, while many policies have been shown to include strong, explicit support for sustainable urban development, these often lack mandatory policy instruments. 3. Final ENABLE Conference on 9 October 2019 – Register Now

   The conference "Equitable and resilient access to the benefits of green and blue infrastructure" marks the final phase of the research project ENABLE (Enabling Green and Blue Infrastructure Potential in Complex Social-Ecological Regions). It will bring together green space practitioners from the cities Oslo, Stockholm, and Łódź with policy-makers and leading researchers to optimize design options for green and blue infrastructure so that multiple benefits can be provided to all citizens simultaneously. 4. Strengthening Co-operation between EU and CELAC Regions on Urban Nature-based Solutions – News

   Nature-based solutions are an attractive proposition to address urban challenges in Europe and Latin America. While some of the environmental and socio-environmental challenges are specific to each region or even individual cities, there are many shared challenges such as air pollution, social cohesion, and the impacts of climate change. Research institutes and local governments in both regions can benefit from the exchange of experiences, knowledge, solutions, and techniques for addressing those challenges. To foster such exchange, scientists from Ecologic Institute visited the Alexander von Humboldt Institute (IAVH) in Bogota (Columbia), a renowned Colombian research centre for the study of biodiversity.

5. Second Cycle of the German Participatory Forum on Fish Protection and Downstream Migration – Publication

   Since 2012, more than 200 experts have been involved in the German Participatory Forum on Fish Protection and Downstream Migration, including experts from the field of water management and nature conservation, the federal states and the federal government, the federal waterway administration, the energy industry, hydraulic engineering, fisheries sciences, nature conservation, fishing and fishing associations and from the university sciences. In the second cycle of the Forum, from 2015 to 2018, this constructive dialogue was continued and a deeper understanding of various aspects of fish protection and downstream fish migration was compiled. This report documents the project work of the second cycle and is available for download.

6. Low Flow and Drought Management – Workshop

   Due to climate change, the Emscher region is expected to face increased challenges caused by low water and drought in the coming decades. For affected waters, cooperation between different parties is crucial. The workshop discussed problems and solutions for their cooperation. Jenny Tröltzsch and Dr. Ulf Stein from Ecologic Institute gave an introduction to the workshop and presented possible solutions and instruments for cross-sector coordination in the Emscher region.
