Ecologic joins the initiative IEDEATH March 2009

IEDEATH March 2009 is an informal network of web designers advocating safe internet use. This initiative, started by Norwegian software engineers, is quickly gaining international support. Supporters of IEDEATH March 2009 are voluntarily committed to dropping support for the Internet Explorer 6.0 (IE6).

The objective is to help IE6 users to up-date their browser. The Ecologic Web Team aims at incorporating the objectives of IEDEATH March 2009 as far as possible in its projects.

IE6 users are recommended to up-date their browser for the following reasons: 

  • IE6 does not fully support current web standards and therefore does not display web pages correctly.
  • In order to make web pages be displayed correctly with IE6, web designers must use hacks or workarounds. Thus, design costs increase.
  • IE6 has also been criticized due to its instability.
  • IE6 contains open security holes.
