The "Network Resource Efficiency" as part of the project "Advancement of Resource Policy" invited to the 7th network conference on Monday, 27 June 2011 in Berlin. New approaches in politics and businesses are highlighted under the guiding theme "2011 – agenda setting for the resource turnaround". Max Grünig presented first ideas describing which actors should be included in a societal debate on resource efficiency.

A growing world population, continued economic growth and increases in consumption in developed and developing countries lead to a significant increase of global resource use. This entails massive economic, ecological, social and security implications. Hence, resource efficiency is an economic, ecological and social imperative.

The project "Advancement of Resource Policy" aims at developing starting points for an overarching strategic concept to initiate a broad social debate on resources and resource efficiency.

The Ecologic Institute and the Wuppertal Institute pursue these goals in two parts: Part 1 is lead by the Ecologic Institute and is conceptual-scientific in nature, aiming at the exploration of communication strategies; while part 2 targets the maintenance and evolution of the "Network Resource Efficiency" – implemented by the Wuppertal Institute and building upon the results from part 1.

On 27 June 2011, the 7th network conference took place in Berlin in the context of part 2. The program and all other relevant information can be accessed at the Network Resource Efficiency website [German].

Max Grünig, Fellow at Ecologic Institute, presented preliminary project results within the theme "Good Practice – successfully disseminating knowledge on resources":
