Every year in October the European Environment Agency (EEA) publishes a "Trends and Projections in Europe" report assessing the self-reported progress of 33 European countries and the European Union (EU) in achieving their climate mitigation and energy policy objectives. These objectives include international commitments under the UNFCCC and its Kyoto Protocol, as well as the EU's 2020 climate and energy targets. For the 2014 "Trends and projections in Europe" report, Ecologic Institute prepared complementary country profiles covering greenhouse gas and energy data and policies for each of the 28 EU Member States. The country profiles are available for download.

The European Commission has tabled initial proposals for new targets and some changes to key instruments such as the Emissions Trading System (ETS) upon which the EU Heads of State and Government are to make decisions later in 2014. This study assesses the status quo of EU climate and energy policy and experience with the current set of targets and instruments – and distills from it concrete recommendations for a new package for the period until 2030. In this analysis for the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI), Camilla Bausch, Matthias Duwe and Benjamin Görlach discuss how the outlook for an ambitious climate and energy have shifted with the start of Angela Merkel's third term in office, and the new political constellation. The authors discuss both the challenges at the national level, Germany's possible role in the EU climate and energy policy, and the effect on international climate negotiations. Deliverable B of the two-part report on "Multilevel Governance of our Natural Capital" provides a set of recommendations targeting Member States and local and regional authorities. These aim to support the achievement of the EU Biodiversity Strategy’s targets for 2020 and the implementation of CBD Decision X/22. The recommendations are the result of an analysis that was based on the findings from an online survey and desk research. The document presents a set of headline recommendations and elaborates on each recommendation with a more detailed explanation and illustrative examples.

The European Union (EU) and its Member States are debating the shape and substance of future EU climate policy. With partners from the CECILIA2050 project, Ecologic Institute produced reports on 8 EU Member States and the EU as whole, which take stock of current policies and their performance. In all 9 cases, the policy mix currently in place can be improved. A Policy Brief summarizing the findings is available for download.

As part of the visual identity for the project "NETwork for GREEN Economy Indicators" (NETGREEN), Ecologic Institute designed a promotional flyer in small postcard format. The flyer summarize general objectives and aims of the projects, is styled according to the project style-guides and contain besides an project information also a list of partners, contact and an QR-code directing to the project website. Flyers are distributed during project events.

To support dissemination activities of the EFFACE project, Ecologic Institute developed a standard 2-fold flyer, containing relevant general information about the project - its theme, focus, aims, activities, list of partners and contact information. Flyer is styled according to the project visual style and it is distributed during project events and internal events of Ecologic Institute.

On 29 October 2013, Eurostat published its most recent Flagship Publication 'Smarter, greener, more inclusive?'. The report assesses the EU's progress in implementing the Europe 2020 strategy. Commissioned by Eurostat, Katharina Umpfenbach and Krista Timeus of Ecologic Institute edited the climate change and energy chapter. It discusses progress towards the so-called 20-20-20 targets which aim at cutting EU greenhouse gas emissions, increasing renewable energy supply and improving energy efficiency. The project "From 'The Blue Sky above the Ruhr' to the Energiewende" aimed at shedding light to the factors that have driven the development of scientific environmental policy advice in Germany. The project team applied the "oral history method", holding a total of 20 interviews with contemporary witnesses. Ecologic Institute produced the project website which provides an overview of the goals, methods and partners of the project. The project's findings as well as videos of the interviews are available for viewing in the media library.
