Measuring-Progress.eu - Navigation through the Green Economy Indicator Jungle

After almost two years of work led by Ecologic Institute on the project NETwork for GREEN Economy Indicators (NETGREEN), the initiative’s main output was unveiled: a database for Green Economy indicators. Actually, this product is a multifunctional tool rather than a simple database. The tool helps to identify and understand the best indicators to measure progress towards the green economy. Therefore, it is useful for policy-makers and people trying to influence them. This initiative is of significant interest for the Directorate-General for Environment, as can be seen in a recent interview with the NETGREEN project team. The interview is available online.

Mid-term Evaluation of the Renewable Energy Directive

A study in the context of the REFIT programme
The Renewable Energy Directive (RED) established a framework for promoting renewable energy development in all sectors, including binding national renewable energy targets and a mandatory target of 10% for all Member States for renewable energy use in transport. Commissioned by DG Energy, a consortium composed of CE Delft, Ricardo-AEA, Ecologic Institute, E-Bridge and REKK carried out an assessment of the effectiveness and efficiency so far of measures and actions laid down in the Directive. Stephan Sina, Christine Lucha, Andreas Prahl and Lenat Donat contributed to the study. The study is available for download.Read more

Measuring Progress – Explore Green Economy Indicators

measuring-progress.eu/
'One size fits it all' does not apply when it comes to the right indicators for policy making. The NETGREEN consortium recently published its interactive tool "measuring-progress.eu" which collects green economy indicators in addition to helping users navigate through them. This tool incorporates the most important indicators and useful information about each of them. Additionally, an interpretation aid and information about related indicators are provided. By doing, this, "measuring-progress.eu" provides guidance to policy makers and researchers who want to use and further develop indicators and tools in the field.Read more

Facilitating Multi-level Governance for Energy Efficiency (multEE)

March 2015 to August 2017
The overall objective of multEE is to improve the consistency and quality of energy efficiency policy planning and implementation on different administrative levels in the beneficiary countries. The multEE-project supports this objective through the introduction of innovative monitoring and verification (M&V) schemes based on bottom-up data to ensure the impact of energy efficiency measures is correctly evaluated and useable for future energy efficiency planning. Moreover, multEE aims at improving vertical coordination between administrative levels in order to use the full potential of the integrated M&V schemes developed in multEE and improve the overall quality of energy efficiency planning and implementation.Read more

Analysis of the Enforcement and Impact of Climate Change Adaptation

September 2013 to August 2014
A system to monitor the implementation of the Swiss adaptation strategy needs to be developed. The system will verify the achievement of the Swiss adaptation strategy’s objectives and ensure optimal adaptation to climate change. The project will support the establishing of the monitoring system and will develop indicators to identify outcomes and impacts of the existing climate adaptation impact model. The indicators will be derived from the adaptation strategy’s objectives and from evaluation questions. Ecologic Institute supports the project lead by INFRAS. The work of Ecologic Institute is mainly based on the experience gained from developing the indicator report for Germany’s adaptation strategy.Read more

Gewässerökologische Charakterisierung silikatischer Mittelgebirgsbäche im Kellerwald als Beitrag zur Fließgewässerbewertung

The small coarse siliceous substrate dominated highland streams within the ecoregion Kellerwald belong to one the most understudied water systems in Germany. This study provides for the first time a comprehensive integrated ecological characterisation for these streams and adjacent floodplains. The study contributes therefore to the discussion on the methodology of regional river typology and to the development of integrated assessment methods for rivers. Read more

Qualitätsanforderungen an Umweltinformationen

Herleitung, Definition und Anwendung auf die Berichterstattung zur Umweltbelastung von Konsum und Produktion
Although there are many information and data on the environmental and climate impact of consumption and production, it is difficult to evaluate their role and their connections in the overall picture. In this study, different quality requirements for environmental information are defined and compared by using the concept of the "True and Fair View."
