Contributions to Generational Accounting to Assess Sustainability

April 2005 to March 2006

What does Germany’s frequently mentioned population decrease actually mean for sustainable development? How can social security systems, but also the provision of wastewater services and a functioning transport infrastructure be maintained within this context? Capacity Building in the New Member States on Further Climate Change Action (post-2012)

December 2004 to December 2007

This project convened about 350 participants from business, politics, academia and civil society in a series of 10 events. Ministers of Environment of the respective host country opened these meetings. These events were intended to prepare the ground for further discussion in the new EU Member States (NMS) and Candidate Countries (CC) on further climate change action (post-2012) and to create additional public awareness.

Legal Implementation of User Charges for Global Environmental Goods

November 2004 to July 2005
International airspace and the high seas are global environmental goods with traditionally unrestricted access. The ensuing environmental impact can be addressed through user charges for air- and sea-traffic. This project assessed the legal conditions for the application of such charges in international, European Community and domestic law. Evaluation of the Commission's urban Cooperation Framework

August 2004 to February 2005

Together with the Institute for European Environmental Policy (IEEP) London and the Institute for European Policy Prague, Ecologic is evaluating the European Co-operation Framework to promote Urban Sustainable Development. A midterm review of the co-operation framework is being undertaken. On this basis the Commission will decide on its future design.

The co-operation framework to promote Urban Sustainable Development aims to provide financial and technical support to networks of local authorities for the exchange of good practice in relation to urban sustainable development.

Job Creation Potential of Clean Technologies

A large number of environmental policy instruments do not only serve environmental objectives, but have also positive impacts on the economy and employment. The European Parliament asked Ecologic for independent expert advise on the job creation potential of clean technologies and win-win situations in this policy area. Climate Protection by Environmental Fiscal Reform in the Areas of Transport and Households - Expert Interviews at European Level

Within a project by the Cologne Center for Public Finance (FiFo), Ecologic presented the state of the art of fiscal policy instruments for climate protection in the areas of transport and private households. The report is part of the project "Ökologische Finanzreform - Weiterentwicklung der Ökologischen Steuerreform unter Klima- und Energieaspekten" ("Environmental Fiscal Reform - further development of the Environmental Tax Reform from climate and energy points of view"; FKZ 202 14 195) in behalf of the German Federal Environmental Agency.
