The Emerging Leaders in Environment and Energy Policies (ELEEP) Transatlantic Energy and Climate Dialogue

Project
Duration
-

The Emerging Leaders in Environment and Energy Policies Network (ELEEP) is helping to deepen transatlantic cooperation on climate and energy by organising a Transatlantic Energy and Climate Dialogue. Specific themes of the ELEEP Transatlantic Energy and Climate Dialogue are the transition to low-carbon energy systems in the EU & the US, local adaptation of energy systems to climate change impacts and the potential for transatlantic cooperation in carbon markets. Over the course of two years, 40-60 new ELEEP Fellows will join the network and engage in a variety of offline and in-person activities. Based on these activities, members will collaborate on online platforms to produce jointly published policy papers and impact projects, which will be presented at an ELEEP Conference in Washington D.C. in the summer of 2017.

From mid-2015 to mid-2017, the Emerging Leaders in Environment and Energy Policies Network (ELEEP) is helping to deepen transatlantic cooperation on climate and energy by organising a Transatlantic Energy and Climate Dialogue. This dialogue aims to stimulate transatlantic conversation and debate about pressing issues related to energy, climate and environmental policy, targeting a wide array of stakeholders in the EU and US, including policy-makers, the business community, NGOs, journalists and policy experts.

Specific themes of the ELEEP Transatlantic Energy and Climate Dialogue are the transition to low-carbon energy systems in the EU & the US, local adaptation of energy systems to climate change impacts and the potential for transatlantic cooperation in carbon markets. Over the course of two years, 40-60 new ELEEP Fellows will join the network and engage in a variety of ELEEP Network activities, including:

  •     Four Study Tours
  •     Three side-events at international climate negotiations
  •     A series of webinars and presentations linked to the themes of the dialogue
  •     Online discussions between ELEEP Members on the ELEEP Facebook Group

Based on these discussions and activities, members will collaborate on online platforms to produce jointly published policy papers and impact projects, which will be presented at an ELEEP Conference in Washington D.C. in the summer of 2017.

Launched in fall 2011, the Emerging Leaders in Environmental and Energy Policy Network (ELEEP) is a dynamic, membership-only forum for the exchange of ideas, policy solutions, best-practices and professional development for early and mid-career North American and European leaders working on environmental and energy issues. ELEEP currently has over 100 members, split between North America and Europe. Members debate topics of the day online, meet regularly for study tours and other face-to-face activities and collaborate on transatlantic impact projects. Due to diversity in both its membership and activities, the ELEEP Network addresses climate and energy policy issues in a wide range of sectors, including transport, buildings, agriculture & forestry, utilities & energy, waste and finance.

ELEEP is a joint project of Ecologic Institute Berlin, Ecologic Institute US and the Atlantic Council and is financially supported by the European Union, the Robert Bosch Foundation and the Allianz Foundation for North America.
