The sixth workshop of the Forum was marked by the beginning of the 2nd management cycle of the Water Framework Directive. At the event, the results of the first management cycle with regard to the status of the fish fauna and the envisaged measures to improve this quality element were reflected. In this context, the assessment methods for the fish fauna in surface water bodies and the passability of barriers and the resulting measures were considered. Concerning the measures, the key success factors for the initiation and implementation of fish protection and downstream fish migration measures were discussed with the participants of the forum. In addition, the focus of the event was on large rivers, where technical fish protection measures such as mechanical barriers have limitations. The interplay of habitat improving measures with the existing passability strategies and measures, which ensure a fish-friendly plant operation, is addressed.

In addition, the new information platform "Atlas Fischschutz & Fischabstieg" was presented at the workshop. The platform is to be a first step towards a better networking of the German-speaking stakeholders in the field of fish protection and downstream fish migration. The platform gives an overview of ongoing activities and upcoming events.
