Elke Thiele heads the Communications & Events Team at Ecologic Institute and is the first point of contact for the press. Her focus is on the development of sustainable communication strategies and their target-group-oriented implementation, both for the Institute itself and for individual projects. She is particularly interested in the strategic coordination of all communication activities – whether analogue or digital – and in involving as many stakeholders and potentially interested parties as possible. Elke Thiele works in English and German.

For over twenty years, Elke Thiele has been applying her public relations expertise primarily in the fields of nature conservation, environmental protection, and climate action. For example, she designed and organized a communications campaign to protect and preserve Germany's avenues, led a grassroots campaign to save Brandenburg's forests, created and hosted a podcast on biodiversity conservation and the energy transition, built a small forest at the Green Week, and wrote press releases, social media posts, flyers, websites, and articles on these topics.

In recent years, Elke Thiele has also specialized in science communication, including at the Leibniz Centre for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF). Prior to this, she worked for many years as a freelance PR manager for clients such as the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, the Bavarian State Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Forestry, the German Forest Protection Association, the Association of German Tree Nurseries, the ADFC Berlin and the German Avenue Road. She also possesses substantial experience in managing social media channels for a broad spectrum of clients.

She worked with federal and state ministries, authorities and associations, as well as large and small companies, giving her a deep insight into the diverse requirements of press and public relations work. As a freelance lecturer at the PR-Kolleg Berlin, Elke Thiele passed on much of her knowledge to the next generation of PR professionals. She learned her trade during an internship at ABC Euro RSCG, one of the most important PR agencies in Germany at the time. Prior to that, she worked as an assistant in the Berlin office of the Australian daily newspaper "Sydney Morning Herald".
