Carlos Calzadilla Guerra is an Alexander von Humboldt Foundation's International Climate Protection Fellow at Ecologic Institute. His research focuses on transforming the built environment into a more resilient, sustainable, inclusive, just, and biodiverse system, with a particular emphasis on nature-based solutions and their application in Latin American cities. With a significant international background, Carlos Calzadilla Guerra is fluent in Spanish, English, and French, and possesses basic German skills.
At Ecologic Institute, Carlos Calzadilla Guerra contributes to the Biodiversity and Nature-based Solutions teams. His work examines the implementation potential of nature-based solutions on vacant urban land in Latin American cities, focusing on their role in climate action and biodiversity enhancement. His work also involves developing policy instruments aimed at promoting the effective and strategic use of this underutilized urban resource.
Prior to joining Ecologic Insitute, Carlos Calzadilla Guerra was part of the INTERLACE project on urban ecosystem restoration in Latin America and the EU. He has extensive experience working in sustainable urban and regional planning in Latin America, having worked in the public sector, as a consultant, and as a lecturer and researcher.
Carlos Calzadilla is an architect and holds an MEng in Sustainable Intervention in the Built Environment as well as diplomas in Social Innovation and Transformative Leadership.
