During the Climate Negotiation Summit in Poznàn, Poland, on 10 December 2008, R. Andreas Kraemer of Ecologic moderated a Side Event of the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the French Presidency of the European Union on "Delivering on the EU's Climate Commitments: State of Play of Europe's New Climate and Energy Legislation".

The speakers presented the package of climate and energy legislation then under discussion within the European Union.  Members of the European Parliament (EP) responsible for drafting the EP's positions on the different pieces of legislation, explained the state of play, underlining the broad consensus achieved across the political spectrum in the EP.  The discussion addressed the benefits of the package for the climate and the environment, its implications for the European economy, and the progress foreseen towards finalising the legislation.
The event focused on emissions trading, effort sharing on energy efficiency and renewable energies, carbon capture and storage (CCS) and carbon dioxide emissions from cars.
The speakers were:

  • Stavros Dimas, European Commissioner for the Environment
  • Johannes Blokland, MEP, Vice-Chairman of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, and Member of the Temporary Committee on Climate Change
  • Avril Doyle, MEP, Member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, and of the Temporary Committee on Climate Change
  • Satu Hassi, MEP, Vice-Chairwoman of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, and Member of the Temporary Committee on Climate Change
  • Chris Davies, MEP, Member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, and of the Temporary Committee on Climate Change
  • Guido Sacconi, MEP, Chairman, Temporary Committee on Climate Change, and Member of the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety
