The Nature of Cities Festival 2024 was an extraordinary three-week hybrid event that brought together almost 400 researchers, artists, activists, and enthusiasts from around the world to celebrate the importance and beauty of urban nature. As a proud event partner, the Ecologic Institute's nature-based solutions (NbS) team led two sessions during the in-person week of the festival, taking place in Berlin, Germany from 3 to 7 June 2024.

A major step was made by recruiting almost 1500 farms located in 26 EU countries, showcasing a wide range of agricultural systems. The majority are dedicated to animal husbandry and mix farming systems, followed by specialized arable crops and finally, horticulture crops. Around 25% of the total farms, across sectors, are organic farms.

Brandenburg's cabinet adopted a peatland protection program in March 2023, building on the National Peatland Protection Strategy and the 2021 "Climate Protection through Peatland Protection" initiative. The project aims to develop recommendations for communication on peatland protection in Brandenburg, examining the current communication landscape. At the Think2030 conference in Brussels, Aaron Scheid discussed the role of the agricultural sector in reaching climate neutrality by 2050 during a Science4Policy session. Despite some progress so far, efforts have stagnated, and current projections indicate only a modest reduction of greenhouse gases (GHG) by 2030, ultimately making the sector number one in terms of GHGs emissions. Therefore, shifting support away from emission-intensive practices and transitioning into a low-emission agricultural sector must be our first priority, while making farmers the driver of the transition.
