The water supply, energy and agricultural sectors have a common interest in the protection and sustainable use of water resources: the development goals water, food and energy security are critically dependent upon the availability of water in sufficient quality and quantity. Mutually beneficial solutions for the three sectors have the potential to assist the transformation towards a green economy, with the following fields of action: i) resource efficiency, ii) green investment and iii) ecosystem services. The goal of the project is to record the adaptation measures implemented in Germany up to this point and to evaluate the experiences gained from these. To that end, Ecologic Institute has developed an internet-based databank of measures, through which those interested can document their own measures and be informed on others' measures. A competition will also be conducted to determine particularly exemplary adaptation measures and to make this information known to a wider audience.
Doris Knoblauch and Alexander Neubauer of Ecologic Institute analyse which EU and international policies can be informed by the three Footprint Indicators (Ecological, Carbon, and Water Footprints). Furthermore, the report uses the RACER and SWOT analysis to evaluate the indicators' robustness, their usefulness for assessing progress towards the policy objectives and the possibilities for their integration into policy making.
