The development of the National Restoration Plan (NRP) is a key step towards implementing the EU Nature Restoration Regulation (EU 2024/1991). This regulation requires all Member States to plan and implement concrete measures to restore degraded ecosystems and halt biodiversity loss. The Ecologic Institute leads the project, which provides technical and administrative assistance to the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) and the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) in the preparation of the first draft of the NRP.
This document compiles useful sources for MS to inform nature restoration planning. It aims to support MS in the contextualization, design and planning of nature restoration measures in their NRPs and includes links to established (i) guidelines and standards, (ii) key platforms and networks, and (iii) databases.
On 22 February 2024, Dr. Benjamin Kupilas and Fenja Kroos gave a presentation at the 6th ad-hoc meeting on future national restoration plans (NRPs) organized by DG ENV. They presented their work on the Compilation of Existing Guidance on Ecosystem Restoration commissioned by DG ENV.
This project supports the EU Commission by undertaking a series of assignments that are to be requested by the Commission during the next phases of the legislative process of the proposed NRL. In this context, the project handles requests from the European Commission, for example to discuss further details of measures to be considered in the negotiations on this legislation.
