Legal Support for Germany Before and During the Second Meeting of the Parties PRTR Protocol

Project
Duration

Ecologic Institute supports the Federal Environmental Agency and the German Federal Ministry of the Environment with the preparation of the second Meeting of the Parties (MOPP 2) of the Protocol on Pollutant Release and Transfer Registers (PRTR Protocol). The PRTR Protocol is an international agreement under the Aarhus Convention.

The Protocol has been ratified by most of the EU Member States, including Germany, and by the EU itself. Its parties are required to establish publicly and freely accessible pollutant release and transfer registers containing information on facility-specific releases of pollutants and waste transfers. The registers, such as Germany's PRTR and the European Pollutant Release and Transfer Register, can be accessed online.

Ecologic Institute analyses legal questions arising in the run-up to the Meeting of the Parties, including questions relating to draft decisions. At the Meeting, the Ecologic Institute supports the German Delegation during the negotiations by providing legal analyses, available options and drafting suggestions.
