Maximilian Häntzschel currently serves as a Legal Trainee at Ecologic Institute, where he contributes to the Ecologic Legal team on a wide range of environmental law issues at both the international and EU levels. A native German speaker, he is fluent in English, possesses an advanced command of Finnish, and has working knowledge of Spanish.

Alongside his legal clerkship, Maximilian co-authored a book chapter on EU and international chemical law, building on his Master's thesis entitled "Toxic Remnants of War – exploring the limits of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions".

His previous professional experience includes legal positions at the law firm Weissleder Ewer in Kiel, Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy in Hamburg and the German Embassy to Finland in Helsinki as part of his training as Law Clerk. From 2021 to 2022 he worked as Research Assistant at the Center for Climate Change, Energy and Environmental Law at the University of Eastern Finland in the project "NDC Aspects". His responsibilities included analyzing shifts in ambition in nationally determined contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement and preparing case studies on South Africa and the United States. From 2019 to 2020 he served as a Research Student at the Chair for International Law of Prof. Dr. Georg Nolte at Humboldt University Berlin.

Maximilian earned his First State Examination in Law and subsequently specialized in international and European environmental law, completing a master's degree in International and Comparative Law from University of Eastern Finland. Additionally, he completed Summer Schools in International Law at the Erik Castrén Institute at Helsinki University  and at the Pärnu Campus of Tartu University (Estonia). Maximilian Häntzschel studied law at Humboldt University Berlin and Transnational Law at the University of Geneva (Switzerland).
