Dr. Anne-Karin Cooke is a Fellow at Ecologic Institute. Her work focuses on water resources, climate adaptation, agriculture and international cooperation. She is involved in the Horizon 2020 project MERLIN, which focuses on the financing of restoration and nature-based solutions in freshwater ecosystems, as well as the project SpongeWorks. Additionally, she researches financing instruments for the water sector and water efficiency in industry. A German native speaker, she is fluent in English and has knowledge of French.
Besides topics around water scarcity and drought, her focus also lies especially on the impact of (agro-)chemicals and nutrients on water resources. Moreover, she is experienced in environmental data science, modelling and machine learning, especially applied to (eco-)hydrology and hydrogeology.
Prior to joining Ecologic Institute, Dr. Anne-Karin Cooke worked at the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) in Berlin, completing a UBA project on data-driven modelling of concentrations of plant protection products and their metabolites in groundwater. During her PhD she gained experience in terrestrial gravimetry for geophysical groundwater monitoring and coupling with hydrological models.
Dr. Anne-Karin Cooke received a doctoral degree in geosciences from Université de Montpellier (France) in 2020. She also holds a master's degree in Earth and Environment (specialisation: Hydrology and Water Resources) from Wageningen University and Research (the Netherlands). She earned a bachelor's degree in geoecology from the University of Potsdam (Germany).
