Dr Stephan Sina, Senior Fellow at the Ecologic Institute, gave a presentation on the new Environmental Criminal Law Directive at a conference on water crime organised by the University of Neuchâtel (Switzerland). He provided an overview of the directive’s key provisions and offered an initial assessment based on its planned implementation in Germany.
The conference "Wasserkriminalität zwischen Unsichtbarkeit und Strafverfolgung" (Water Crime: Between Invisibility and Prosecution), organised by the Faculty of Law at the University of Neuchâtel, addressed the legal challenges associated with water pollution and the difficulties involved in prosecuting such offences. The presentations by academics and practitioners covered perspectives from criminal law, administrative law, police practice, and the environmental prosecution and enforcement authorities in Switzerland and abroad. The bilingual conference (French/German), which took place as part of the research project „Wasserkriminalität – ein ungeahndetes Unrecht“ (Water Crime – an Unpunished Injustice), was attended by around 60 participants from academia and the professional field.
