Ecologic on the Board of the Bellagio Forum for Sustainable Development

News
As an international network of grant-providing institutions the Bellagio Forum for Sustainable Development (BFSD) strives to attain environmental balance, economic stability and social progress throughout the world.  In December 2003, R. Andreas Kraemer was elected member of the Forum's Board.  For some years already, Ecologic has been cooperating with the Bellagio Forum for Sustainable Development (BFSD)  and some of its member organisations. In the summer of 2003, Ecologic joined the Forum so as to strengthen relations and create more opportunities for cooperation.

At the members' meeting in New York City, NY, in December 2003, R. Andreas Kraemer representing Ecologic was elected to the Board of the Bellagio Forum for an initial period of two years.  During that time, Ecologic will follow and support the Forum's activities in the following areas:

  • Conservation Policy: building on the cooperation with IUCN, the World Conservation Union, help prepare a contribution of the Bellagio Forum to the World Conservation Congress 2004;
  • Fisheries and Marine Conservation, in the development and implementation of international instruments for the protection of oceans and fisheries, which are an important source of protein for humans;
  • Promotion of ethical and ecological criteria in the sustainable asset management of endowments, foundations, and other institutional investors.

Together with other members of the Bellagio Forum, further projects are to be conceived and implemented. These could be for instance projects on the integration of environmental protection requirements into foreign policy and international relations or the establishment of a network of experts in the new EU Member States on EU trade policy. The design of projects on the relations between the World Trade Organization (WTO) and multilateral environmental agreements is also scheduled.
