Ecologic Institute has been ranked third worldwide among Environment Policy Think Tanks in the University of Pennsylvania's 2019 Global Think Tank Ranking. This marks the 10th consecutive year under the top 10 in this category. Ecologic Institute was also ranked among the Top 10 in the category "Best Quality Assurance and Integrity Policies and Procedures" for the fourth consecutive year.

Overall Ecologic Institute was ranked in seven categories and received better placing than last year in categories such as "Best Managed Think Tanks". Other prominent placings include "Top Think Tanks in Western Europe” and "Top Energy and Resource Policy Think Tanks".

Dr. Camilla Bausch, Director of Ecologic Institute:

"Within the last decade, the importance of environmental research has moved increasingly into the spotlight. This reflects a world progressively confronted with fundamental environmental challenges, including the loss of biodiversity and the climate crisis. We are honored to have been ranked among the top 10 environmental think tanks every year of the past decade. Going into our 25th year as an institute, we look forward to continuing to produce high-quality, high-impact work for the decisive decade to come.

The top rankings in the Environment Policy category were held by the Stockholm Environment Institute (1) and Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (2). With Wuppertal Institute also among the top ten, Germany continues to be a bastion for world class environmental think tanks.

The 2019 Top Think Tank in the World was awarded to the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (USA).

The rankings, compiled by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program (TTCSP) of the University of Pennsylvania, were officially launched on 30 January 2019. The launch was marked by events in 130 cities around the world under the motto "Why Think Tanks and Policy Advice Matter". Ecologic Institute, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation co-hosted the Berlin event.

The TTCSP is based at the University of Pennsylvania and aims to increase the profile, capacity and performance of think tanks at the national, regional and global levels. The rankings are compiled by evaluating perceptions submitted by nearly 4000 policy makers, journalists, public and private donors, and functional and regional area specialists, which are then ranked and reviewed by expert panels comprised of international professionals from a spectrum of disciplines.
