On the afternoons of 29 and 30 June 2022, a two-part online workshop was held as part of the project "Information and teaching materials for an environmentally conscious use of human pharmaceuticals". The workshop was titled "Embedding the topic 'Pharmaceuticals in the Environment' in pharmaceutical and medical university teaching as well as in continuing education and professional training", and discussed with stakeholders different approaches to foster the uptake of this topic in teaching curricula.
The German Federal Environment Agency funds the project, which aims to promote the environmentally conscious use of human pharmaceuticals and to anchor the topic of pharmaceuticals and the environment in pharmaceutical and medical teaching. To this end, teaching materials are being developed for university teaching, for further and continuing education and for vocational schools, as well as customer information materials on the proper disposal of old and unused medicines.
The workshop agenda and the presentation slides are available for download below (under "Attachments"). The results of the group work with stakeholders will feed into a Work Plan for Anchoring 'Pharmaceuticals in the Environment' in Pharmaceutical and Medical Teaching, which will be finalised and published in the second half of 2022. The Work Plan will be made available online. Teaching and customer information materials will be finalised during 2023 and also be made freely available online.
