This documentation summarizes the main interim results of the four-hour online workshop "Targets and Indicators for the Protein Transition in Germany" with 35 experts.

The aim of the event was to identify and discuss key behavioural factors which influence plant-based diets and to develop a pre-structured collection of potentially effective policy approaches to promote more plant-based diets among the population in Germany and to effectively support the decline in the consumption of animal products.

This report summarises key findings and recommendations for a strategy to promote more plant-based diets. This strategy is key for a sustainable transformation of food systems as so far, there is a lack of binding policy targets for sustainable nutrition to guide actions, and indicators to enable monitoring. This report discusses different options for targets and indicators, drawing on the concept of planetary boundaries and the Planetary Health Diet.

On 21 March 2023, the STErn project team discussed the recommendations for action of the STErn project with around 40 experts from politics, administration, science and practice. The event was opened by Matthias Koller (Federal Environment Agency) and Dr. Margareta Büning-Fesel (Federal Agency for Nutrition).
