An online expert dialogue on "Promoting repair through networks and repair bonuses" will take place on 6 June 2023, organized by Ecologic Institute for the Berlin Senate Department for Urban Mobility, Transportation, Climate Action and the Environment (SenMVKU). The aim of this expert dialogue is to discuss measures for the promotion of repair at local level through the example of repair networks and bonuses by presenting existing networks and good practice examples that show potential success factors and challenges. During the event, the newly started Berlin Network of Quality Repair will be presented, as well as other examples of cooperation, networks and repair bonuses in order to highlight best practices and discuss lessons learned for their transferability and expansion. The event will bring together perspectives from different stakeholders, including policy, research and (handcraft) businesses as well as other groups involved in quality repair such as industry associations and environmental NGOs.
The event will be held in German.

Resource consumption during manufacturing is the dominant environmental input in the life cycle of products. To reduce our environmental footprint, we need to use products for much longer. From an environmental perspective, there is no alternative to the prolonged use of products and thus to repairing them. Besides, there are also social and economic reasons for strengthening repair, as it creates qualified jobs and can have beneficial effects on social recognition and social relationships. And the repair sector is growing: there are already numerous repair initiatives and networks that are working vigorously to strengthen it. The recently founded Berlin Network of Quality Repair is just one example in this regard. It is therefore all the more important that the framework conditions for more repair in general are now created and that existing initiatives network even more closely.
