The one-day workshop brought together 16 European and Arctic stakeholders to develop potential scenarios for the future (up to 2030). The chief objective of the EU Arctic Footprint project is to explore policy options for reducing the EU’s environmental footprint in the Arctic. Given the high level of uncertainty with regard to both policy development and the impacts of current environmental trends – in the EU and in the Arctic – scenario development could help policy makers better prepare for the range of possible futures lying ahead. During the workshop, expert stakeholders discussed the key driving forces of change in this context and their relative uncertainty and importance for the future.

Scenario development could help policy makers better prepare for the range of possible futures lying ahead.
