The issue of "Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns" has gained a new impetus in international debates as a result of the World Summit on Sustainable Development in Johannesburg in 2002. The states now face the challenge of fleshing out the "10-Year-Framework of Programmes" by integrating programme content at their respective national levels. Germany can refer to a multitude of approaches and initiatives to promote sustainable development. Nevertheless, new ideas are necessary in order to implement sustainable consumption and production patterns.

Against this background, the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and the Federal Environmental Agency are hosting the conference "Sustainable Consumption- and Production Patterns  - National Dialogue on the Follow-up of the World Summit for Sustainable Development" in Berlin which aims at developing perspectives and new impetus for the promotion of sustainable consumption and production patterns.

Expert dialogues

In the follow-up to the conference, a series of expert dialogues is being organised by the German Federal Environment Ministry and the German Federal Environmental Agency with the support of Ecologic. The aim of these expert dialogues within the national dialogue process is to prepare further steps of implementation focusing on specific subjects and groups of actors.
