Ilka Merbold is Content Manager at Ecologic Institute, where she supervises the institute's website. In her work, she focuses on website management and is responsible for publishing the monthly newsletter. She supports the scientists with the technical conception and implementation of web-based surveys. Ilka also optimizes and creates content for various project websites. As a native speaker of German, she also works in Arabic and English.
She is entrusted with the standardisation of web content and documents and archives project results of Ecologic Institute. She coordinates information flows and databases, determining processing methods and ensures the quality of information through staff training. In cooperation with the web developers, she optimises the functionality of the Content Management System (CMS) and the front end.
Ilka Merbold worked with the Ecologic Events Team from 2001 until 2007. She focused on the preparation, implementation, and follow-up of national, European and international conferences on issues of current environmental interest.
Before joining Ecologic Institute, she organised international events through her involvement with the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences of the University of Rostock (Germany). In particular, she organised the 11th EURO-ARAB Conference for the Environment, which took place in Europe for the first time in 2001. Furthermore, she worked for GHORFA (Arabic-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry) during the German-Arabic Economy Forum in 2002. During her university studies abroad, she worked with the German department of Radio Damascus (Syria). As an awardee of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), she joined the Directorate for Cultural and International Relations of Damascus University, the Goethe Institute Damascus and the Institut Bourguiba des Langues Vivantes in Tunis (Tunisia).
Ilka Merbold studied Islamic Studies, Political Science and Arabic Language and Literature in Berlin, Bonn (Germany) and Damascus (Syria).
