Further Development of Cooperation with North America within the Transatlantic Climate Bridge

Project
Duration
-

Since 2008, the "Transatlantic Climate Bridge" (TACB), an initiative of the German government, has fostered strengthened cooperation on climate and energy policy issues between Germany (and Europe as a whole) on one side of the Atlantic and the US and Canada on the other. After nearly a decade of successful programmes under the TACB framework – including Ecologic-run study tours in Germany by North American policymakers and experts in the policy areas of energy, agriculture, and buildings – the TACB is being revamped to accommodate new North American climate policy circumstances.

To this end, Ecologic is advising the German Ministry for the Environment (BMU) together with Ecologic Institute US and environmental consultancy E3G (in Berlin and Washington DC). The first of these advisory activities consisted of an extensive analysis of current climate and energy policy developments in the US and Canada after the US election in November 2016. Based on this analysis, the team is developing strategies for bringing German and European approaches and expertise into the North American climate and energy policy discussion.

The implementation of the strategy is supported by new concepts for activities of the TACB, with a focus on climate policy activities at the subnational and regional levels in Canada and the US.
