Project
Duration

Ecologic Institute contributes to the project "Provision of Technical Support Related to Target 2 of the EU Biodiversity Strategy to 2020 – Maintaining and Restoring Ecosystems and their Services" for DG Environment. The concerned task focuses on better understanding the impact from the bioeconomy’s current and future demand on biodiversity in the EU.

Ecologic Institute is responsible for the quantitative analysis of the current supply and trends of biomass in the EU-28, based on the latest available data from the Joint Research Centre (JRC). More specifically, the work consists of creating a detailed breakdown of the supply of biomass in the EU according to food, feed, bioenergy and shedding some light on the medium-term future. Based on this work, Ecologic Institute supports the analysis of future narratives that set out different qualitative-demand pathways, which help to identify how opportunities and risks for biodiversity could evolve. Ecologic Institute is also involved in formulating the conclusions.
