On 4 June 2025, the European Commission adopted the European Water Resilience Strategy. Its goal is to help Member States use water more efficiently and secure water for all Europeans.

The strategy sets out over 30 actions to restore and protect the water cycle, ensure access to clean water, and build a competitive, water-smart economy. It is accompanied by a  Recommendation on Water Efficiency, which offers guiding principles to cut consumption and use water more wisely.

Ecologic Institut is contributing to this effort as part of a European consortium led by Milieu. Our team provides scientific and technical analysis on key water action areas and supports the European Commission in assessing the enforcement of EU water legislation, especially the Water Framework Directive and the Floods Directive.

The European Water Resilience Strategy sets out over 30 actions to secure clean water, restore the water cycle, and build a water-smart economy across the EU.
