Ten ELEEP Members traveled to the Pacific Northwest of the United States to find out how communities use planning, policies, investments, and other measures to establish low-carbon, sustainable transportation systems. This tour took a broad perspective, moving beyond a focus on transportation systems in isolation to consider the larger economic development, urban/rural, and social implications of transit and transportation planning.

Ecologic Institute's Ulf Stein presented first insights of the INTERREG IVb project DROP during the International Conference on Regional Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CLARR 2014) in Bremen. DROP is trying to enhance the preparedness and resilience of northwestern European regions to periods of drought and water scarcity. In his conclusions he developed messages for the domains of natural science, policy and water management. The presentation slides are available for download.

Information sheet about the DEMEAU project, which stands for 'Demonstrating promising technologies to address emerging pollutants in water and wastewater'. On the left of the image is a text-rich description of the project, which focuses on cooperation with water companies and the challenges of water treatment. In the center are the logos of the consortium members. On the right, the DEMEAU logo is shown next to an aerial photograph of a water treatment plant, emphasizing the practical application.
Ecologic Institute created an informative flyer in five languages that presented the EU-funded DEMEAU project. The project aimed to address challenges in water supply and wastewater treatment by promoting advanced technologies such as Managed Aquifer Recharge, Hybrid Ceramic Membrane Filtration, Hybrid Advanced Oxidation Processes, and Bioassays. With a strong consortium of research institutions, SMEs, and water suppliers from five EU countries, DEMEAU focused on innovation and partnership to effectively combat emerging pollutants.

On-time adaptation can be achieved only when future climate change and its consequences are successfully communicated. With their book "Communicating Adaptation to Regional Climate Change. Concepts, Challenges, and Perspectives", Karin Beese (Ecologic Institute), Miriam Fekkak, Christine Katz, Claudia Körner, and Heike Molitor enter the new area of "Communicating Adaptation." Through a collection of articles by 50 authors, the book presents theoretical approaches and reports of practical implementation as well as hands-on mediation for art and cultural projects.

This infographic was developed within the project "DYNAmic policy MIXes for Absolute Decoupling of Environmental Impact of EU Resource Use from Economic Growth (DYNAMIX)". It proposes to reframe the decoupling concept and thus presents a key assumption developed in DYNAMIX. Different versions of the infographic were developed for use in online and print media, as well as a version with reduced text for PowerPoint presentations.

Global population growth, climate change, shifting consumer patterns, competing demands on and the environmental impacts from agricultural land use – the convergence of these issues places food security and sustainable land use in a precarious balance. Ecologic Institute contributed to the report 'Technology Options for Feeding 10 Billion People' commissioned by the STOA Panel of the European Parliament, which outlines the EU's role and potential options for responding to these challenges. The report is available for download.

The deliverable 'Inventory of River Restoration Measures: Effects, Costs, and Benefits' was published in January 2014 as part of the FP7 REFORM project. Scientists at Ecologic Institute led the work in collaboration with several European partners, including economists and ecologists. The information in the deliverable will help river basin managers by providing examples of how representative data on the costs and benefits of river restoration can be gathered and analysed to support the drafting of programmes of measures for the implementation of the EU Water Framework Directive. The deliverable is available for download.
