<p>&#13; At the conference on "Water and Climate Change in the MENA-Region", organised by GIZ and BMZ, Rodrigo Vidaurre, Researcher at Ecologic Institute, held a presentation on policies that address the link between human security, water conflicts, and Climate Change. Jennifer Möller-Gulland, Researcher at Ecologic Institute, held a further presentation on innovative benefit assessment methodologies to assess quantitative and monetary benefits from improved water resources use.</p>&#13;

In the International Commission for the Protection of the Rhine, the member Switzerland, France, Germany, Luxemburg, the Netherlands and the European Commission work cooperatively and successfully towards a sustainable development of the Rhine River. This presentation focused upon experience with transboundary control of pollution.

<p>&#13; Pollution and prevention of pollution from industrial sources is a central field of European and German environmental policy. This presentation of Alexander Neubauer, Coordinator European Research and Senior Fellow at Ecologic Institute, introduced the basic terms, concepts and instruments that European and German industry-related environmental policy employs.</p>&#13;

Waste policy is developing dynamically in Europe and Germany. The presentation of Alexander Neubauer, Coordinator European Research and Senior Fellow at Ecologic Institute, dealt with both the basic European requirements for waste policy and current German developments.&#13;&#13;

<p>&#13; Germans fear that climate change harms political stability in other countries and thus affect trade, induce migration, and ultimately causes conflict. Talking to a delegation from China, R. Andreas Kraemer of Ecologic Institute describes Germany's new energy solutions, effective domestic policies, and promotion of good climate policy abroad.</p>&#13;

Sandra Cavalieri, Fellow and Arctic Programme Coordinator at Ecologic Institute, spoke to decision-makers, scientists and industry experts on the environmental impacts of Arctic Shipping at the Symposium on Arctic shipping held at the Canadian Embassy in Berlin on 22 February. <p>&#13; Part of the project "Transatlantic Opportunities for Meeting Global Challenges in Energy Efficiency and Low Carbon Technology", Dominic Marcellino (Ecologic Institute Fellow) presented the results of a research paper, which was written with Christiane Gerstetter, at a conference in Berkeley, California. The conference, held at University of California, Berkeley, on 11 and 12 February 2011, where researchers delivered initial results.</p>&#13;

During the "E-World" event in Essen, Ecologic Institute's Wolfgang Urban gave a speech on the role of biomethan for the Federal Government's Energy Concept 2050. After shortly introducing the use options of biomethan, he presented political goals in this field, especially the Energy Concept 2050. In addition, he highlighted the possible contribution of biomethan to the achievement of these goals. Wolfgang Urban concluded his speech with suggestions for incentive tools regarding power and heat. The presentation slides are available for download.

Emily McGlynn, Transatlantic Fellow at Ecologic Institute, presented the EU Arctic Footprint and Policy Assessment project to Arctic indigenous stakeholders at a side event organized by the European Commission, DG MARE during the Arctic Frontiers conference in Tromsø, Norway on 25 January 2011. The EU Arctic Footprint report was discussed alongside other EU Arctic policy developments.

Emily McGlynn, Transatlantic Fellow at Ecologic Institute, spoke to decision-makers, policy analysts, scientists and students at the Arctic Frontiers Conference in Tromsø, Norway (28 January 2011) about the EU's impact on the Arctic environment. Arctic stakeholders were very interested to hear the results of the EU Arctic Footprint and Policy Assessment Project, as coordinated by Ecologic Institute.

Sandra Cavalieri, Fellow and Arctic Programme Coordinator at Ecologic Institute, presented the results of the EU Arctic Footprint and Policy Assessment project at a conference hosted by the European Space Agency (ESA) on 8 December 2010 in Paris, France. The results show Europe’s Arctic environmental footprint from a broad range of sources, and added to the discussion on how ESA can improve its satellites and remote sensing data to contribute to the EU’s Arctic policy development.
