Biodiversity and Climate Change – Exploring Synergies

Status Conference

Event
Date
6 December 2023: 12:00 to 17:30, 7 December 2023: 8:45 to 13:30
Location
Berlin, Germany

The status conference, which Ecologic Institute is organising and conducting on behalf of BfN together with the client, is intended to raise current research questions at the interface of biodiversity and climate change and to initiate a scientific exchange. The aim is to jointly identify gaps in knowledge and the need for further research.

In Germany, too, the consequences of advancing climate change and the continuing decline in biodiversity are already being felt. Science and politics are largely in agreement that both challenges are predominantly due to common causes and further reinforce each other due to complex interactions. However, there is still a considerable need for research on these interactions. The status conference is aimed at the German-speaking scientific community and will bring together 60–80 experts in Berlin. The current state of knowledge and future research needs on various topic complexes in the overlapping area of biodiversity and climate research will be presented in presentations and keynote speeches, and then discussed and deepened in various formats. In addition, research projects can be presented on posters.

To better address the challenges of climate change and dwindling biodiversity, it is necessary to identify research needs, close knowledge gaps and promote scientific exchange on these.
