On 12 and 13 February 2025, Arne Riedel and Fenja Kroos from Ecologic Institute participated in the Network Conference of the Thematic Group "Polar and Ocean Politics", held at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Berlin. The conference brought together scholars from a wide range of disciplines to discuss current challenges in polar and ocean politics.

The conference centred on the theme "Science and Ocean Politics Facing New Challenges." Across six panels and a roundtable discussion, participants explored topics including narrative analyses of marine and polar policies, comparative and national approaches to ocean and polar governance, ocean governance concepts and paradigms, as well as governance potentials and challenges for the polar regions, oceans and outer space in the context of increasing geopoliticisation.

Arne Riedel was a speaker on the panel on governance potentials and challenges for the polar regions, oceans and outer space, which addressed the implications of geopolitical dynamics for governance approaches across different domains. The discussion highlighted the value of interdisciplinary dialogue for understanding and responding to evolving challenges in science, ocean and polar policy.
